This is the Charlie Bone series. Charlie is a boy who has discovered that he has a very interesting ability (I’m not telling you what it is so it’s a surprise). Soon Charlie finds that he is not the only student at Bloor’s Academy that is “special” and he starts to realize that some of the adults around him are evil. Charlie and his friends like to hang out at the Pet’s Cafe where you are only allowed to come in the doors if you have a pet with you. There are eight books in this series and I have read all of them. I believe the author is going to be writing more also. I highly recommend these books because they are filled with adventure, suspense, good vs. evil and a certain kind of magic that hasn’t been written about in books yet. They are all available at the libraries around town so run down and check one out today. I recommend that you read them in order because they do build on one another.

This is the best book that I have read this year! Young Ludlow Fitch finds himself in a horrible predicatment involving his parents. He flees the City and finds himself on a carriage ride to places unknown. Once the carriage stops he is in a small town called Pavus Parvus and finds work with a Secret Pawnbroker. Ludlow instantly becomes involved in writing the towns secrets in the Black Book of Secrets. He finds himself loving his new life, but has a hard time getting over his own secrets. Should he share them with the Secret Pawnbroker or not? Great new book by a brand new author. I couldn’t put it down and finished it in two days.

This is a pretty good book. Two kids are running through a lab and the next thing they know they have traveled back in time. As they land in another century they are discovered by a villain that is hunting a man that is hiding in the bushes. Once the villian steals their time machine the man from the bushes emerges and tells them that he will do whatever he can to help them find the time machine again. This book is filled with their travels across the countryside to find the villian who works for an even worse villian. If you like historical fiction, then you will like this books.

Percy has found himself in trouble once again. He recieves a frantic call from Grover so him, Annabeth, and Thalia rush to his side to discover that Grover has found two more halfbloods. The problem is that they aren’t the only people that know about them. Percy, Annabeth, Thalia and Grover find themselves in a fight to save their own lives again, but get help from some beautiful strangers. Thalia makes a permanent decision that has an effect on everyone. Percy and Annabeth are finding themselves having to put out fires all over the country once again. New Gods and Monsters are introduced and they are deadlier and meaner than ever! Non-stop action is why this series is still one of my favorites. I’ve already read through it three times. Go read it asap!

The second book in this series is much more action packed. Tom traps his first “ripper” all by himself without the help of anyone and this one was deadly. It killed a priest and it was about to move onto someone else. When Tom finds out that the priest it killed is the Spook’s brother he feels terrible. This one event sets off a chain of events that bring the Spook and Tom to the town of Priestown where they are hunted by the Quisitor. The Quisitor is an evil man that is being controlled by the Bane that hides underneath the town in catacombs that he has been bound to. With Alice’s help the Bane gets set free, but she has no idea what she has truly done. Tom must now save Alice and the town from the Bane, save the Spook from the Quisitor and complete all of this before the Bane kills everyone. A great sequel to the first book, so I can’t wait to read the next book in the series.

This is a new series that already has seven books to it’s name. It takes place a looooong time ago in the stark countryside. Tom Ward has just learned that instead of taking over his father’s farm he is going to become the Spook’s Apprentice. What is a Spook you ask? Well, it is man that has trained to get rid of all dark things that haunt our Earth. He gets rid of witches by putting them in pits that are closed with 13 iron bars, boggarts by putting them in pits that are sealed of with the perfect sized stone, and many more dark creatures. In this first book of the series Tom finds himself constantly scared of everything. He is the seventh son of a seventh son and his destiny is to be a Spook one day in his own right, but does he have the guts to go up against a very powerful and evil witch? You will have to find out!

This is a great book for the science fiction lover. A boy and girl meet in a small town that never sees has any action. They discover that the boy’s Uncle has invented a machine that is going to spark an intergalatic chase between giant spider aliens and humans. Most of the story takes place in space and the children, the girls mom, the boy’s Uncle, a sheriff and his son find themselves on different planets, in different times. Find out how the children save the planet from these crazy spiders.

I saw this book in our bookfair last week and it took me three days to read it. It is such a great new book! Every Soul a Star follows three teens that are from three very different walks of life. Bree is the popular girl that is obsessed with fashion and wants to be a model. Ally has been raised in a campground and home schooled. Jack is a loner that hangs out in his tree house by himself all day while his mother spends her time getting divorced and remarried. All three characters transform when they meet at the Moon Shadow campground to see an eclipse. There is alittle bit of a love story, but the characters transformations outshine everything else. If you love astromony then this will be great for you. I highly recommend this book for any student eight and older.

Book 2 is filled with action! Amy and Dan find themselves in Vienna with their crazy babysitter. They are still being followed by their insane, power hungry relatives that are willing to do about anything to stop them. Amy and Dan only have a piece of Mozart’s sheet music to help them find the next clue. They find themselves in a race through out the waterways and tunnels. Great sequel to the first book and once again, it leaves us with a cliff hanger at the end. I will be sure to read the next one asap.

The sequel to Stargirl is out! I think I may love this book even more than the first one. Stargirl has moved to another town and is once again finding herself as an outcast. Her friend Leo, who we meet in the first book, narrates a lot of the book from the letters that he recieves from her. I really like how Stargirl continues to be independent and a free spirit. She is such a fun character. You can hear the love that Leo has for her in the way that he explains his current life without her. Love, Stargirl does not disappoint with this easy read. Great book for kids 9 and older.
